spatz: Rey sihouetted against the sky and a piece of Death Star wreckage (SW Rey Death Star wreckage)
June was full of Neil Gaiman fandoms: first I rewatched Good Omens S1 (S2 on Friday!!!) and then plowed through my backlog of fic to read, and then I watched The Sandman. So there's six Good Omens recs, two Sandman recs, and one lone but lovely Goblin Emperor rec.

GOOD OMENS

Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach by Nnm / @mouseonamoose
Amazing story about Crowley going to therapy, from his therapist's POV. The author clearly knows their stuff and Aubrey is a vivid character in her own right with her own journey to go on. This one's been recced all over, but it really is that good.

dearly departed by attheborder / @areyougonnabe
In which Crowley gets discorporated and many shenanigans ensue - the London occultist underworld, lust-demons, Hell bureaucracy, Aziraphale vs loopholes, fake marriage, and of course, a happy ending. Slightly morbid at times but a fun hilarious romp.

Temptation by out_there / @out-there-tmblr
Lovely look at Crowley tempting Christ (as he mentions to Aziraphale), and the lasting effect it has on him.

the deft, sweet gesture of your hand by deadgreeks / @mortuarybees
Post-S1, Crowley turns up injured at the bookshop and Aziraphale takes care of him. Such a tender romance, such warm h/c. Poetry! Knitting! Pining! Ferociously protective Aziraphale!

Hell to Pay by battle_cat / @fuckyeahisawthat
"In the midst of the Great Fire of London, Crowley does an emergency good deed too undemonic for Hell to ignore." Wistful h/c.

Lead me to the banquet hall by obstinatrix & wishwellingtons
In which Crowley doesn't eat around Aziraphale because he has too many Feelings about it - and then Aziraphale finds out. Creative, delightful, hot, and well-characterized!

You can also find my older Good Omens recs on Pinboard!

SANDMAN

Spite (Is As Good A Reason As Any) by Blue_Sunshine
In which Hob doesn't just build an inn and pine after 1989, but hires Johanna Constantine to help him track down Dream. Great AU in many directions, and the Hob-Johanna friendship is a complete scene-stealing delight. (If you like them as much as I did, there's another WIP that just finished: Totus Mundus Agit Histrionem, which kicks off with Johanna rescuing Hob from a demonic possession.)

Passing the Time by Anonymous
Dream passes time in the fishbowl by quietly terrorizing his guards. (The author tagged this 'Dream is petty and terrifying' and I couldn't agree more.) Viciously funny but also a little heartbreaking.

GOBLIN EMPEROR

Between the Grave and the Well by Sphragis
"In which Iäna Pel-Thenhior catches a fever and Thara Celehar catches feelings." Gorgeous hurt/comfort-y get-together that really captures the characters and the world.

everyone else in fandom: *posts lots of amazing Crowley/Aziraphale fic*
me: *has a weird dream about God playing cards with the multiverse and posts fic two years later*

...Well, at least I finished something!

Kairos
Good Omens (+ stealth crossovers)
gen with a dash of Crowley/Aziraphale
646 words

In a dark room outside of everything, God laid out her cards and played.

She had only one card when she started, but they grew in her hands as the possibilities split and split again: the one with life in many places, the one with life in only a few, the one with life only on Earth. The one without any life at all never split again, of course, but she kept it in her hand for sentimental value as her first, and the unique pleasure of watching the universe tick on like clockwork. Boring, but soothing.

a day in the life by attheborder (Good Omens/Beatles RPF, Crowley/Aziraphale)

“Rock and roll? Really, Crowley? No, I’m afraid I know Mr. Epstein far better than you do. We have quite similar tastes, you see, he’s a great appreciator of the classics. Brahms, Bach. He may sell pop records in his shop, but I can’t possibly see how a group like this could play a role in improving his life.”

In which Aziraphale and Brian Epstein (the guy who discovered the Beatles) became friends while he was studying in London, and little miracles have large effects. I came across this one after reading the author’s hilarious podcast and Crowley the Uber driver stories, but I honestly think this one ended up being my favorite of hers. Bittersweet but lovely, very book-canon in tone but tying into the TV canon with the holy water scene, and it’s very clear the author did her historical research.

A Home at the Beginning of the World by stereobone (Good Omens, Crowley/Aziraphale)

“Oh,” Aziraphale says. “I think Crowley might have moved in with me.”

I think this one might have been Patient Zero for this particular trope, and I can see why. It’s SO DELIGHTFUL.

Any Other Name by ignaz (Good Omens, Crowley/Aziraphale)

“It’s just,” he continued, “I’ve noticed that humans—some humans, anyway—they use that word, angel, as a…well, as a sort of…endearment.”

“Do they?” said Crowley, who had invented using the word as an endearment in the 13th century AD.

*dies* Oh my god, yes, the perfect balance of spot-on dialogue and mutual pining and everyone thinking they’re involved and them being just a bit slow, bless their hearts.

Glowy Green Slime by sameupegasus (MCU Spider-Man, gen)

Peter gets a phone call from Tony Stark in class. It raises some questions about the exact nature of his Stark Internship.

Great series of stories from the POV of Peter’s physics teacher, including the ever-popular ‘Peter’s class goes on a field trip to Stark Industries’ trope and Ms. Warren having to call Tony out on not doing any necessary paperwork ever. Admittedly I am a sucker for outsider POVs, but this one’s a blast.

infiltration by Nokomis (MCU, gen)

MJ crashes an Avengers celebration and lives her best life.

Featuring MJ meeting and bonding with Valkyrie, because YES. Hilarious.

The Teenage Vigilante’s Guide to Saving New York by candlesneedflame (MCU, gen)

While Tony’s assistance with all of Peter’s technological needs has been invaluable, he hasn’t managed to be much of a mentor when it comes to the actual hero aspect of being a powered person. After a chance encounter, Peter finds himself being mentored by none other than Daredevil with no shortage of guest-taught lessons from the older vigilante’s friends and acquaintances. This exposure to the grittier side of the city and vigilantism as a whole leads Peter to discover a conspiratorial plot to destroy New York City.

Entertaining and long read with a great use of the NYC vigilante ensemble and plenty of crime-fighting. Plus kittens!

spatz: Steve bent over a notebook, sketching (Steve drawing)

Mostly Good Omens again this month, with one lone rec for The Goblin Emperor!

Aught That Can Be Named by phoenixflight (The Goblin Emperor, Csethiro/Maia, Csevet/Maia)

Maia really didn’t mean to say someone else’s name in bed with his wife.

An excellent extrapolation from the idea that Csethiro definitely, definitely owns a strap-on. The ‘accidental confession’ trope isn’t one that usually works for me, due to secondhand embarrassment issues, but this one was played perfectly. And hotly.

Mr. Fell Attempts to Buy a Book from Mr. Bennet by @amarguerite

Mrs. Bennet attempts to husband hunt. Aziraphale attempts to buy a book. No one gets what they want.

*dies laughing*

You, Soft and Only by thehoyden

He hadn’t expected a sudden lapful of angel.

“Very sorry about this,” Aziraphale said, and kissed him.

An exceedingly fine specimen of Crowley/Aziraphale fake-out makeouts over the millenia, with that distinct mix of totally-married-yet-pining-terribly that I love about this pairing.

ask and ye shall receive by ariaste

Smite me, Crowley thinks one day, about three or four days into the Beginning of the World. He feels rather daring about it, especially when God doesn’t answer. Puts a bit of a swagger in his slither.

God’s sense of humor is terrible, but on the other hand I adore terrible puns and Crowley suffering, so.

The Soho Bookshop Job by Poetry (Good Omens/Leverage)

Crowley asks Leverage to stop the shady corporation trying to buy out Aziraphale’s bookshop. He gets rather more than he bargained for.

SO much fun tossing the Leverage team into this universe, with some fun speculation about the fallout from the not-pocalypse.

His Banner Over Me by pineapplecrushface

Three of Aziraphale’s excellent ideas, and how Crowley (very casually) obliges him, as a friend does.

Some choice goddamn Crowley pining.

VIDS

Hallelujah by purplefringe

I have watched this so many times already, cannot recommend highly enough! It’s not the only one going around to this specific cover of the song, so I almost skipped watching it due to thinking I’d seen it before, but I love the way purplefringe constructed the vid around the duet, and just such good editing in general.

Out of the Woods by such_heights

Ugh, their faces. *chinhands*
spatz: cartoon bunnies on stilts with caption "dramatic character-driven stories... or stilts?" (Bunnies stories or stilts?)
Day 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

I just want to say that, as someone with almost 3500 bookmarks on Pinboard, asking me to freeform rec a small number, much less *three*, is just plain mean. :P

Let's go with the theme of "crossovers that should not work as well as they do, and yet are awesome" since I got [personal profile] tassosss talking about the subject the other day. Also, I love crossovers and have an enormous stash of them saved - uh, jesus, almost 10% of my bookmarks, now that I look at the numbers.
