Icon Meme 2: The Icon Meme Returns
- Reply to this post with the words "BY THE ANTI-CLOCKWISE PROPELLER OF ICARUS!" (or whatever; I don't even know what that means) and I will pick six of your icons.
- Make a post (including this info) and talk about the icons I chose.
- Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
- This will create a never ending cycle of icon glee.
musesfool chose these icons:

My first and oldest icon, this one's been in continual use as my default since I got it seven-odd years ago as a present from
thedorkygirl. Well, okay, technically not *this* one - I edited the original for Dreamwidth, when I changed my username from thespatz to spatz. If you look closely, you can see pixilation around the text, which bothers me immensely but I can't do any better with Paint.
I really love it - it's simple, striking and well-worn. I like having a this-is-me icon, and the accumulated history that comes with a frequently-used item. All-around, an awesome gift. Thanks Karen!

This one comes from the Bunny webcomic, and I believe it's a direct quote. I can't find the original strip right now, alas, and I saved the 5 years ago, so.... *shrugs* I dusted it off because I'm writing more fic lately, and it does a perfect job expressing that writerly urge to say, "Fuck it! I'm writing some ridiculous genderswap, because I can."
And dammit, stilts are cool!

I made this a couple of weeks ago, actually. I have been in desperate need of an Olivia icon but couldn't find any I liked in the icon comms (capturing her awesomeness in 100x100 is a challenge, apparently *g*), and I was bored with Lindsey on a roadtrip and sleep-deprived and on a weird sleep cycle, so I zoned out for a few hours with Paint and the default Windows image editor and made a couple dozen Fringe icons. I finished off the final few last night, so I should probably post those.
This particular icon was based off a promo poster of Olivia in which her hair is interwoven with math equations. Making the equations visible in 100x100 lost the gorgeous sweep of the hair, so I cropped to the two compositions I liked and then upped the saturation to bring out the gold against the black background. This one was my favorite of the set and fits my general wishes for a Fringe icon - eerie and gorgeous like the show, and more importantly: OLIVIA.

Any Austinite will recognize this as the "Hi How Are You" alien frog-thing that was drawn on the side of a building on the Drag, the stretch of Guadalupe near UT with tons of stores and shopping. It's without a doubt Austin's favorite piece of grafitti: when the building changed ownership from a record store to Baja Fresh, and people spotted construction crews poking at the wall, they immediately started protests and picketing. The new owners swiftly backed down. Keep it weird, Austin. ♥
Point of interest: I also have a SXSW tote bag with the frog, but I had to write the "Hi how are you" in by hand. It looked naked and sad without it, ok?

This one's new, so it doesn't have many emotional layers yet, but it's real purty. ;) It's Amy and the eleventh Doctor hugging at the end of 5x02 in front of a spaceship viewport. I like having versatile hug icons because I use them frequently, and this one fulfills a fandom/character gap, has a sense of wonder to it, and is greenish. Green is important, and I didn't have any. ;)

Ileliberte cropped this from one of her non-fannish works. The JPG was titled 'sundown', but I always keyword it as 'sunrise'. Yes, I am a glass-half-full person. I snagged it while at school in the cold dark North; I'm slightly solar-powered and missed home. The color and image reminds me of Texas and summer, and the abstract rays remind me of the Navajo sun symbol and childhood vacations in the desert. I generally use it when I'm cheerful and happy about something, but not all the way gone to squee. (That's what my Claire icon is for.)
My keywords are very prosaic, so I'm not going to discuss them: they're generally: [fandom][character(s)][one-word descriptor]. I think
recessional said once about her icons that they were like an alethiometer, and that's a wonderful description of how I use mine. There are obvious uses, like using my Life icon when I'm talking about real life stuff; but that same icon will be used for multiple emotions and contexts, like feeling meditative, or discussing something urban, and several others. I imagine most people do something similar, but feel free to tell me I'm wrong.
For years, I've only had the basic number of icons on LJ, so I had to use versatile icons; you'll rarely see me with single-fandom, single-sentiment icons - not because I don't like them, but because they feel like a luxury for people with the icon space.

Yeah, I also do that, though since I have 200+ icons, I have some that are single purpose only, and some that I forget I even have and so end up not using them very often.
