Oh God, I've died and gone to crossover heaven....

The Hunting of the Snark, a House crossover. Currently WIP.
Please, do yourself a favor and don't spoil yourself about the other fandom, because it's blindingly obvious after 7 paragraphs, unless you lived in a hole during the last decade. Incredible House POV, complete with mental and verbal snark and repression, the most bizarre case EVER, well-written supporting cast (special props for Wilson and Cuddy), and more fun than you can shake a sword stick at. Just - go read it RIGHT NOW. Then come back and thank me.

(Lindsey, this means you.)

You know, I've been not only woefully slow on finally finishing that damned crackfic (apologies, apologies!) but I've also been slow on getting up to speed on who's friended me. I'd just gotten through giggling a bit at your sister's LJ this morning when I surfed over here and found myself blinking in surprise.

Thanks so much for the rec! There will be more soon! Especially with the whip! Plus? I finally managed to get House's pants back on (his day? Really started to suck after Wilson was shot) so I'm pretty sure he'll eventually forgive me for writing such a cracked-story. *g*

Looking forward to having some fellow Texans on my flist!

Make yourself at home! Don't mind the dust, college has made me neglect the place terribly.

Ah, but the long wait will force me to reread the whole story, which will be *such* a trial, of course ;)

His day only *started* to suck after Wilson? Yikes. Though I think Xena's lasting worth as fantasy material may prompt his forgiveness. Eventually....

Where are you from in Texas? I'm an Austinite myself, which explains a lot.

I feel you. I'll be tackling a new archaeometry project with USF in the fall, which is kinda why I'm trying to get in as much writing and fannish fun as I can now. I know how the academics, they can get in the way of keeping up with stuff like this.

You suffer my slow-down gracefully. How kind of you. :) Life Happened and kinda took an unexpected bite out of my schedule and my brain for most of February. However, I very much want to wrap up this damned story, and not just because my betas are threatening to kick my ass at least a dozen different ways if I don't get the rest of the story to them soon. I'm being actively courted by SGA cultists to write crackfic for them, and by "courted," I mean "stalked." They've escalated to offering bribes to see House and McKay snark at each other.

I fear for myself and my sanity at this point.

Heh. Trust me. That whole pleasure-pain thing will forever be strongly associated with House's memories of Xena.

And, hell, I think House will totally forgive me this story just because it made twin co-eds from Texas squee. *g* Just try and tell me he and Wilson wouldn't high-five over that.... ;)

Where are you from in Texas? I'm an Austinite myself, which explains a lot.

Oh, man. If I ever have to live in Texas again, Austin is the only place I could do. I'm originally from a lame-ass small town just north of Houston. I later did my first two degrees at A&M (although I'm very much a two percenter *g*). Austin has always been my favorite city in Texas, although San Antonio comes in as a close second.

How much are you loving life on the East coast? Boston rocked my world, man. Also? Much love for the Lewis Carroll quote in your bio. *g* Any particular focus in your studies yet?

Great to meet you, btw!

Eeek, so behind on email! Spring Break is lovely when it's two weeks long, but not conducive to keeping up on LJ ;)

I'm being actively courted by SGA cultists to write crackfic for them, and by "courted," I mean "stalked." They've escalated to offering bribes to see House and McKay snark at each other.

....*Is* there a bad side to that idea? *eg* Seriously, I may be the world's most rabid crossover fan. Fics like When Hellmouths Collide (http://www.ltljverse.com/index2.htm) make me squee and bounce around like a ferret on crack. I do think SGA doesn't need any help with the crackfic production, but a little gen wouldn't go amiss in the vast sea of McKay/Sheppard. *bats eyes*

I think House will totally forgive me this story just because it made twin co-eds from Texas squee.

*laughs* The fact that we're identical may just put you in the green for the whole incident.

I'm originally from a lame-ass small town just north of Houston. I later did my first two degrees at A&M

Actually, both my parents were from small towns near/in Houston: Pasadena and Beaumont. And my uncle went the A&M, the dirty Aggie ;) Were you at the College Station campus? That town is, uh, a little boring. State Science Olympiad is held there, and the only thing I really like is Freebird's, and the Austin locations are, of course, far superior.

Austin has always been my favorite city in Texas, although San Antonio comes in as a close second.

Oh, Austin. *wistful sigh* I miss the place; as much fun as the East coast is, there's no such thing as good Mexican food (or spices, unless we're talking Indian cuisine). I do enjoy the East coast, though - I have relatives in Boston and my twin in NYC, so it's really easy to visit, and I'm looking forward to getting past the tourist stage of exploration. Boston has that same vibe I get from Austin (and got briefly on a visit to Chicago) - energetic and interesting, with people to match. There's a summer internship with NOVA that I just heard about in Boston, and I wants it, precioussss....

Also? Much love for the Lewis Carroll quote in your bio.

*laughs* I was searching for a suitable journal title, and "uffish thought" is just the best description of LJ I can imagine.

For some reason, I only memorize silly things like Jabberwocky and the intro scroll from Return of the Jedi. I guess my inner nerd and inner child are a bit too friendly, but I don't mind.

My turn for being way past slow on replying. Sadly, I don't even have two awesome weeks of Spring Break to offer as my reason -- just lame-ass RL stuff.

Okay. So, I gotta give you points for being the first person to mention WHC since I returned to fandom. Out of curiosity, was it just chance that you picked it or did you recognize my name as one of the co-authors?

Also, I'm gearing up to do a cheerful little mini-essay on The Art of Gen Porn because you can make everyone sweat and squirm without the unseemly wet spot. (Pop by this thread (http://researchgrrrl.livejournal.com/23324.html?thread=311836#t311836) when you have time if you want to see what's sparking up this line of thought. And, heh, what my next couple of stories will be after HoS.)

Yup, I did indeed do my first two degrees at the College Station campus. Lordy. I'm not sure I even had enough school spirit to be considered a two percenter. Go you for knowing Freebird's, though. Hee. It's been so damned long since I've had a Monster.

I miss good Mexican food in general, but at least in Florida I'm finding some decent Cuban and Brazillian places to eat. Food had almost no flavor in Oregon and as for Missouri...well, the less said the better. The day I went to a market and found over TWENTY variations of bacon and NO leafy greens save for a heads of almost white iceberg lettuce and OMG...the overhead sign that proclaimed "New Age Drinks" under "Soda" and the only thing there that fit that description was Arizona Iced Tea...yeah. It was a long, hungry summer in Columbus, MO, baby.

Way cool about shooting for the internship with NOVA and not just because it's in Boston (although, clearly, that doesn't hurt.) What would the duties be if you do score the position?

Although I never thought of it until you said it, yes, indeed, "uffish thought" is the just the best description of LJ. Nice call. :)

Well, I'm continuing the late trend here. The way I see it, conversations like these aren't especially time-relevant, so I decided to stop stressing unless the delay reaches epic proportions.

Wait, you're Kimberley *Rector*?!? Cool! No, I totally didn't know. (Oh, God, I just turned bright red. No clue why. *whistles*) I actually wondered a while back where you'd gone, since Martha's kicking around in SGA fandom currently. You're a terrible person by the way - WHC made me go read all the other stories on the site, and I've seen maybe three eps of HtLJ. Really, truly, it was an ordeal.....

GUH. I've been intending to marathon SPN, and I need to do that *rightnow*. The towel icons are sending me over the edge (not to mention the guns), and I fell in love with Jensen Ackles in my very first fandom and now he has a regular gig and I should support that. *nods* Smiley face boxers! *snickers*

You can eat a Monster? By yourself? *big eyes* We used to go to the north Austin store before soccer games, and I could manage half a normal-sized one. I did love the 2-foot-long foil dragon they had hanging in the store, though.

(Side note: I Googled "two percenter", and I assume that you lacked Aggie spirit, and not that you have a nine-inch penis (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=two+percenter) *eg*.)

I was so desperate for something spicy last semester, I got one of the "vegetarian fajitas" (*snorts* yeah, real authentic) from the dining hall and *poured* pepper into it. I was so happy when my eyes started watering *g*

I'm still torn about applying for the NOVA thing - I really want to go home to Austin this summer. But I'd be helping with news and footage research, office work, etc. (http://careers.wgbh.org/internships/internships/nova.html)

I adore Lewis Carroll - doubly crazy for being a mathematician and an author. Not to mention all the drugs....

I'm all about the slo-mo introductions, too. Excellent that we're both on the same page with that.

And, heee! I am indeed Kimberley Rector...THAT Kimberley Rector, in fact. (And if you've read The Naughty Bits on LTLJ, I'm also Scarlette Skye. She's my nom de porn and she may also be making a return to fandom.)

I was tickled to no end when you busted out that WHC link. That story will always hold a special place in my heart, although Life Happened and Martha had to carry on from Chapter 26 on with my story notes and her own awesome writing.

I actually watched HtLJ/XWP just because Bruce Campbell is a good friend of mine. (He was the one who poked at me to consider moving out to Oregon when I got ready for a change of scenery, lo, those years ago.) We just met at the right time in our lives to enjoy a steady correspondence while I was working for the cops and finishing my master degree and he was out in NZ playing Auto. What was cool about this is that Campbell was literally my first Hollywood crush, ever. I was fifteen when I saw EVIL DEAD for the first time. Handtogod, I think I actually felt my pupils dilate as I suddenly went "Oh! That's what the big deal is about boys. NOW I get it." (Hee. I think my dad still wants to have a word with him about that....)

Anyway. Rambling side story, but that's what comes to mind when I think of my short while in HtLJ fandom. :)

SPN totally snuck up on me. I tend to focus on just one fandom at a time but the Winchesters! They cannot be denied! After this week's ep, I've had to resign myself to the fact that I'm doomed to a very particular pit in hell because I'd so be willing to do any and all of those men. Oh, baby. Have you seen this shot of John Winchester (http://community.livejournal.com/jdmorgan/7922.html) when he's not rocking the beard? *fans self* That neck! Those eyelashes! Those green eyes! THOSE DIMPLES!

SO going to hell. SO okay with that. Yes.

Any chance I get to write random Gen Porn, in which no Wincest is occurring but random dudeful nekkidness or indignities are underway, I'm on it. And if I get to mix 'em up with some of my other TV Boyfriends? All the better.

Plus? I made a promise to myself the first time I saw Sam in a towel -- and that promise was to make sure that I put him in increasingly smaller towels every chance I get. *nods gravely* Promises that important, I don't break.

I can get a couple of meals out of a Monster -- it's more the satisfaction of being able to sashay up to the counter and have them put together The Big Damned Burrito for me to my MAKE IT DEATH HOT specs.

Uh, yeah. Good call on the nine-inch penis not being had. (Extra points for Googling, with a total YOU WIN AT LIFE! for including that link. Minx.) I was not particularly one for Aggie spirit although to my horror I do find that I still whoop A&M style on occasion. I didn't realize that had gotten conditioned into to the extent that it did until I rolled into Oregon. Lord. As I wasn't already the terror of the chemistry department there as it was. (For a gen chem project, I built a battery fueled entirely by margaritas, wiring together shot glasses for my cells which was apparently quite the striking way to introduce myself.) But, yeah. Aggie spirit. Gig some Bevo's horns off or whatever.

On the topic of Oregon and food (which is a subject I'm sort of making up by myself), you shoulda seen my face the first time I ran across tofu tamales. Oh, man. I bought one just so I could WTF was in it and I was all calling home, like, "Y'all ain't gonna believe this shit" when I cut the thing open and discovered just how many different types of seeds had been packed into it.

Tofu tamales. Yeah. Welcome to why I cooked a LOT in Oregon.

That NOVA gig looks cool but I don't blame you for wanting a summer back home in Austin. If I ever live in the state again, that'd be the city for me. Hopefully, though, in a few years, I'll be bouncing over to the UK to do my archaeometric research. It's finally okay to move there with a ferret and not have to put him in quarantine -- but Mason will need his own little ferret passport and visa. Hee! That alone would make the move so worthwhile. :)
