June recs

Mostly Star Wars this month, again, with my favorites above the cut! (all Codywan unless otherwise marked) The rest are roughly sorted by diminishing levels of plot and increasing levels of porn because it amused me - plus a handful of recs from other fandoms at the end (The Goblin Emperor, Murderbot, Knives Out, and 9-1-1).

STAR WARS

an ice cream-covered screaming hyperactive thought by @adiduck

Cody is fairly certain he is not going to get his security deposit back.

There are three new stains on his carpet, and a patch by the door has been roughed up enough Cody’s pretty sure the weave’s come loose. The door itself has scratches in the paint all the way up to the door knob, and the curtains covering the windows on either side of the door are shredded, showing the metal grating over the transparisteel on the street side. The caf machine, the dish rack, and the soap dispenser are all in a collapsed and soapy heap on the floor. Cody’d managed through reflexes honed by war to save his favorite caf mug, but had sadly lost two of his plates and a bowl before he’d managed to wrap the perpetrator in three towels and shove the whole bundle up against a shoulder.

The towel bundle, very put out by this turn of events, is yelling.

Post-war AU in which Cody rescues a tooka kitten and then Obi-Wan rescues him from the kitten in turn. Extraordinarily cute, but also a beautifully written look at Cody trying to navigate civilian life and friendship (and maybe more) with Obi-Wan.

sanguine by @glimmerglanger

Everyone said synth was just like real blood.

The Healers in the Temple had said so from the time Obi-Wan became aware that his dietary requirements did not align with those of his crèchemates. That realization had coincided neatly with an awareness of the fact that, perhaps, his crèchemates met his dietary requirements.

OR, the one where Obi-Wan faces a reckoning about himself and his relationship with blood while in the middle of a war.

aka a canon AU with vampire Obi-Wan Kenobi detailing the events of the Clone Wars. I had such a great time reading this series over the spring: it starts off with shorter h/c-centric stories about Obi-Wan and his clones trying their best to take care of each other, and then starts getting plotty and increasingly AU around the Zygerria arc. Long, satisfying angst-with-a-happy-ending that deals with a lot of crunchy trauma and bigotry and pining and grief along the way.

Recollection by @elwenyere

CC-2224 had been compromised.

That had been the assessment delivered by Lieutenant Piett, the Imperial officer who met the returning Purge Troopers in the landing bay, and CC-2224 had accepted the new parameters and applied them to his current situation. He had been compromised in the field, and that was why his heart rate was tachycardic, his vision was blurred, and he was currently being dragged down the hall by the armpits, his wrists cuffed behind his back so that every step wrenched against his shoulders.

Or, Eternal Sunshine of the Reconditioned Mind

Trippy and beautiful and tender, with a very unique look at Cody’s memories of the war and Obi-Wan. (and don’t worry, a happy ending! As happy as post-Order 66 gets, anyway.)

Strangers Like Me by K_R_Closson (mostly gen, Obi-Wan/Jango)

When Obi-Wan chose to fight for the Young, he left behind the only life he'd ever known, and the only dream he had ever wanted. On Melida/Daan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Child of No Clan, finds purpose and finds family, and begins a journey which will change the shape of his life and the galaxy in ways he'll never fully understand.

Or, the one where Obi-Wan is adopted by True Mandalorians off Melida/Daan. Featuring: teenage shenanigans, pet strill, Force teleportation, first love, and found family.

Fantastic Jedi Apprentice-era AU that does a great job negotiating Obi-Wan’s trauma and balancing his identity between his old family and his new one.

More fic under the cut!

Perception by @amukmuk (Fox/Riyo)

Clone Commander Fox is not fond of Senators nor how they abuse his men. Senator Riyo Chuchi is new and only knows what the media portrays about clones. Only time will show them the truth about each other.

A very sweet romance between naive idealistic Riyo and overworked cynical Fox, balanced by a chewy plot about the clones’ dehumanization and fight for their rights.

Thirty-One Sons, Thirteen Moons by sual

“This can’t keep happening,” Jango says despairingly. He’s said this almost every year for the past twenty-five of them.

“Well,” Cody slowly replies, looking down at the squalling baby the witch has left on their doorstep, “what’s one more mouth to feed when you’re already feeding thirty?"

In Cody's latest attempt to sacrifice himself for his family, he finally learns how to want something for himself. Modern AU with magic.

Lovely modern fairytale vibes with a lot of sex. (which I guess makes it both chill and hot? ...I’m sorry)

starcrossed by silvyri (Din/Luke)

Din Djarin gets stranded on Tatooine with a broken ship and no credits to his name. Luckily, a pretty blond local with a smile brighter than Tatooine's twin suns decides to help him out.

Not the first story I’ve read where Luke and Din meet (and then fuck) on Tatooine, but definitely my favorite so far. Hot, with a light but engaging plot stringing together the sex scenes, and a really good dumbass-but-sweethearted teenage Luke.

Saint Valentine by @trixree

Cody doesn’t do this sort of thing. He isn’t quite sure what comes next. He had flings in the army, sure. He had highschool boyfriend that he was sexually active with, too. But he’s never gone back to anyone’s place, never had to navigate the post-orgasm come-down in an environment so foreign to what he knows.

Ben makes it easy.

(Cody's siblings make it a little bit harder, though through no fault of their own.)

The first half is super hot and fizzy fun, and the second half is domestic and sweet as hell. A+ short modern fluff.

At Any Time, Regardless by Kittyhawk / @hawkeykirsah

She looked so much like his general, and at the same time so different. Younger. His age, approximately, maybe even younger. The biggest difference was, for sure, her wardrobe. Obi-Wan was very much not dressed in Jedi robes. Sleeveless mesh shirt, laced up fingerless gloves, short skirt, fishnets, knee-high boots—yeah, Cody wasn’t sure if he would have ever expected his general to wear anything like this.

Or, the one where Cody gets displaced in time and makes some poor decisions.

Straight-up just uses a time travel plot device as a means for smoking hot one-night-stand porn with a little pining, and I respect that. Delightful. (bonus kiss bingo pwp followup here, it’s not crosslinked)

OTHER

An Imperial Patron by phoenixflight (Goblin Emperor, Thara/Iäna)

Mer Celehar is aware that the emperor is visiting Prince Orchenis, but the last person he expects to meet at the shabby Vermilion Opera house is the Edrehasivar's right hand, Mer Aisava, on an unexpected errand.

Charming story where Maia gets to see Zhelsu and meet Thara’s new circle.

In For a Penny by jedibuttercup (Knives Out, gen)

Harlan's eyes flickered to the medical bag, to Ransom's hands, and then back to his face, and Ransom saw the understanding register before he even had a chance to open his mouth.

Harlan lives AU... but with bonus trolling! I really enjoyed how this didn’t shy away from Harlan’s manipulative assholery underlying his genuine affection for Marta and (some of) his family, and allowed for Ransom to make better choices.

Limited Edition by AsphodelAshes (Murderbot, gen)

Mensah’s fourth child, Imaan, had insisted on coming along. The adults had assumed she’d wanted to see Mensah; but she’d been fidgety through the whole reunion, and had started pacing while they were checking into temporary housing. A cursory review of the family’s feed page (I had access for security reasons, but it was mostly questions about upcoming meals, reminders of medical appointments, and photos of farm fauna, so I had its alerts muted) suggested that she’d tagged along to acquire a limited edition card for the game Food Fight Apocalypsis.

I am weak for Murderbot + small stubborn child shenanigans, what can I say?

no one quite like you by hammersmiths (9-1-1, Buck/Eddie)

Hen has added +1 213 555 to Firehouse 118
Hen: This is Eddie!
Eddie: Hey everyone :)

Buck: Why would she add him to our private groupchat
Chimney: I’m literally sitting right next to you

or, Buck and Eddie’s progression through texts.

Immensely cute and well-voiced epistolary fic.
