Hello, Dreamwidth
So, I had a minor epiphany about Dreamwidth while cleaning out my Hotmail inbox.
(Yes, I *know*. The irony, it burns.)
I opened a DW account just over a year ago, but for various reasons haven't done anything except comment with it. General inertia is probably the biggest reason, followed by the knowledge that I be keeping up with two flists instead of just the one, which I barely keep up with now. And at the bottom, the feeling that I'm leaving friends behind on LJ, even though rationally I know that I will be exactly as in touch as I was before.
Then I cleaned out my Hotmail inbox. This particular address is my oldest existing email, and bears the same SN as my *first* email, which I actually shared with Lindsey. Old school, right? I hate the Hotmail interface and awful junk filter and ads, so I've been shifting my correspondences to my various Gmail accounts for years and turning the Hotmail addy into the one I use when I'm filling out bullshit forms on the internet.
I moved to Gmail because it was the better service. I'm moving to Dreamwidth because it's the better service - something I can say with confidence after a year of news updates and constant, innovative improvements despite having a fraction of LJ's workforce and resources. This isn't about evil corporate LJ and pure fannish DW, which is a nonsense dichotomy - the people who run DW are human, too, and will undoubtedly pull something idiotic out of their ass eventually. However, I trust that DW will cop to and learn from its mistakes, while LJ keeps coming up with new and interesting ways to piss its users off, and never changes. (Unless you count the stupid seasonal header.)
I hope that my friends will eventually move over to DW and I can start phasing out my LJ like I do my Hotmail account, but in the meantime, I'll crosspost for the twelve of you who actually follow this journal, and keep up with all y'all who aren't over on DW. I've migrated my old posts over here with all the comments intact - if anyone has a problem with their comments going over (which apparently is a thing, now?), speak up and I'll deal with it.
If anyone want DW invites, I have 8. Plus 1 for AO3, while I'm at it.
