Today, I got a standard fill-in-the-blank response email for my letter to Bush. Since I had entered it under 'hate crimes' (there being no selection for 'homosexual marriage'), I found a few passages particularly ironic:
"President Bush believes the prejudice and bigotry threaten the democratic ideals we uphold as Americans. He condemns any crime that stems from prejudice or contempt for a particular group of people in our Nation....
"President Bush calls on every American to honor the diversity of our people and to treat others to dignity and respect..."
Amen, Mr. Shrub. Wouldn't it be nice if he took his own advice?
