Snowflake Challenge - Day 7
Day 7:
Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 2 might be a good place to start.)
I didn't do a new *fannish* thing, but I tried a new recipe for board game night tonight: chocolate cookies, from my aunt's recipe. Sadly, they did not turn out great - too dry, kinda bland. Even the picture I took is not very appetising. Fortunately, I made spicy potato beef soup and cheese biscuits, which are both reliable and delicious, so all was well, a good time was had by all, and much booze was had by me. :)

That, on the other hand, sounds fantastic!

Ingredients
3½ cups All Purpose Flour
1¾ cups Buttermilk (or milk + 5 ¼ teaspoons vinegar)
2 Tbsp Baking Powder
2½ tsp Salt
9 tbsp Butter (1 stick plus 1 tbsp)
2 cups Cheddar Cheese, grated
*optional: handful of green garlic or scallions
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F / 204°C. (375 in compact oven)
In a large bowl add the flour, baking powder and salt, mix well and place the bowl in the fridge for about 30 min.
Cut the cold butter into pieces and let it sit out, we just want it to soften a bit.
Place the flour mixture in the bowl of your mixer, add the butter and the grated cheese. Using the paddle attachment mix until the butter forms into small peas. (I don't have a mixer so I just work in the butter using my fingers and then add the cheese.) If you're including green garlic or scallions, mix them in at this point.
Add the buttermilk to the mixer and continue mixing until the dough comes together.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and continue kneading a few times. Roll out the dough so that it’s about half an inch thick.
Using a round cookie cutter (you can also use a glass if you don’t have a round cookie cutter) start cutting the biscuits. I use a glass that's about 2¾" and it makes 16 biscuits.
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet about 1" apart. For best rising, place the sheet of unbaked biscuits in the freezer for 10-15 minutes while you preheat the oven.
Bake in the oven for about 18-20 minutes (I use a compact oven so it might take a little longer in a regular oven?) then let cool on a wire rack.
These are best the day of because they dry out quickly. I usually freeze the whole batch and warm them up in the oven a couple at a time whenever I want them. :)
