Captain America 2

YAY THAT WAS AWESOME WHEN CAN I SEE IT AGAIN NOW CAN I SEE IT NOW

Okay, well, no, I resisted temptation and am making myself wait in order to catch up on Agents of SHIELD first, because THAT'S going to be interesting.

I would just like to say that I totally called Robert Redford being evil and running the Winter Soldier from inside of SHIELD. CALLED IT. But it was still awesome. (I *am* lol'ing over Redford's statement that he took the role so his grandkids could see him in a Marvel movie -- like, really? So they can watch Grandaddy shoot his housekeeper in cold blood and try to take out DC with gunships and kill Captain America? OKAY SURE.)

Which is not to say that the movie did not surprise me, because holy shit I cannot believe they made Sitwell a HYDRA agent. I swear I heard a million fannish voices cry out in anguish at the ruination of their fanon.

AAAHHH ALL the Bucky feels in this, oh my god. Sebastian Stan has not previously been my cup of tea, but damn, I am suddenly very attracted to him. Apparently, a hefty dose of amnesia, medical torture, brainwashing angst, and epic tragedy is the key. (also, as [livejournal.com profile] inmyriadbits said, "I had my doubts, but he made that hair work for him." Amen, sister.) The thing is, I've read that arc in the comics, and Bucky is a character that hits a lot of my narrative buttons, but I can't seem to write him. Or *couldn't*, because now I'm suddenly writing post-movie fic about Bucky at the Smithsonian and then going to visit Peggy like a creeper, because she's the only one of that group who isn't dead, or Steve. Good work, Sebastian. A+ face.

I've been trying to remember: Pierce tells Steve that "Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century," but doesn't he say the exact same thing to Bucky later on? I cannot remember the exact line, but I'm pretty sure. Damn, that's a vicious parallel.

I loved how they portrayed Steve in this, trying to find purpose in serving but still lost personally -- and I love his strength, because when shit when down and what little purpose he had found betrayed him, he still did the right thing, the complicated thing, and damn the personal cost. Steve Rogers, everyone. God, I love him. Even when I worry about his semi-suicidal behavior.

Randomly, I'm still in awe that Evans can curl his entire body behind the shield like that. We kinda knew that after The Avengers (jumping out of the bank from the explosion), but we got some nice full-length shots during the street fighting in this movie. *contemplates*

LOVED Natasha in this. PLEASE GET YOUR OWN MOVIE NOW KTHX. I want a million hours of Natasha dealing with her identity issues and figuring out who she wants to *be* instead of just adapting to who she's working for/with, and destroying her enemies by making them underestimate her or by being a chameleon badass. Possibly with flashbacks to Budapest, because Clint is my not-so-secret favorite, shut up.

I also loved Sam, but I don't have a lot to say? He was such a good dude, a good friend to Steve in a way he needed, and was adorably hilarious with his Marvin Gaye and his determined running and his teasing Steve about the speech. Plus, he threw himself off high places like a true Avenger. :D (Also, if he should meet Joan Watson, I think they would bond instantly. Just saying.)

...I still have "When Captain America throws his mighty shieeeeeld..." stuck in my head. Thanks, Alamo Drafthouse. But the guy introducing the film did talk about the origin of the 'winter soldier' name, which I somehow hadn't known before. Very cool.

Seriously, though, WTF is going to happen with Agents of SHIELD. EVEN THEIR NAME IS NO LONGER VIABLE. AHHHHH WHAT.

No, the commercials frame it that you're supposed to think he's talking to Steve, but he only says that to Bucky. He tells Steve that in order to build a new world, you sometimes have to tear the old one down, and that makes enemies.

SebStan brings the feels, man. <3 (I would be psyched to see fic from you about this! :D)

I'm still heavily in denial about Sitwell, which... may actually be justified, according to some vaguetweets the guy's actor has been putting out? SO THAT'S HOPEFUL, we'll have to see what the heck next week's AoS ep does with this mess they've been left. XD;

In the comics Sitwell is a Hydra double agent but it's only because Hydra brainwashed him into it. They're eventually able to get him back and deprogram him. I'm hoping that that's what happens here. :)

I don't know if they'll use it or not but it at least gives us a little bit of hope. :)
