Day 5: In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

smallfandombang - As the name suggests, a Big Bang community for creating long fic for small fandoms. I've only participated once, when inmyriadbits and I co-wrote thrill as only we know how (Mission Impossible) and needed a kick in the ass to finish, but I'm constantly running into stories from the challenge when I catch up on my favorite small fandoms, as I do periodically. Good comm, great output. I should play again!

disgracetoscholars - a relatively new comm focused on Asian dramas and related media. I think I ran into it while backscrolling rageprufrock's Nirvana in Fire tag and trying to find another drama that would satisfy my addiction (spoilers: nothing compares to NIF). Full of hilarious and informative recaps and even more absurd 'jfc save yourself and don't watch this terrible show but I did so let me tell you why it sucked' recaps from a group of very funny ladies. I'm hoping their ongoing Guardian recap series will eventually get me past the place I dropped out due my embarassment squick (Guo Changcheng is a walking talking secondhand embarrassment, jfc).

thedragondeck - a clearinghouse for Temeraire fandom on Tumblr. Whenever I feel the urge to binge myself back into writing, I'll end up dizzily stopping myself on like the 25th page with a dozen tabs open. Good times.

comments

*cackles madly* I'd forgotten how much it fun it was to be actively writing in a fandom with ridiculous spy organizations, where Lindsey and I can legitimately brainstorm shit like 'attack cheetahs' and 'flirting with your rescuer whilst high on interrogation drugs' and 'our heroes steal part of a moving train' and 'the secret bad-guy base is at Disneyworld'.

Plus, we realized that all of Lindsey's most recent stories featured either detectives or spies or both. With The Man From UNCLE and the next Mission: Impossible movies coming out this summer, I anticipate this trend continuing. :)

comments

But Ghost Protocol left the IMF in turmoil, so Will, Ethan, Jane, and Benji team up to take on the Syndicate, a mysterious and widespread criminal organization. Will has to adjust to being a field agent again, and learn how to work with his team when the world isn’t on the line -- all while dealing with attack cheetahs, unexpected amnesia, train robbery, master thieves, and more.

Falling in love was not part of his scenario.

We also got TWO awesome pieces of art by tarlanx, available here as both cover art and wallpapers! One is a drawing of Ethan and Will, and one is a manip from this set photo that Lindsey fell in love with, and Tarlan was super lovely to work with. Go forth and comment! ♥

Whew, I'm really proud of this and it is now the longest thing I've posted, but it's kind of a relief to be done. We've been playing with this story on and off since January 2012, and did a lot more geeky plotting of how various set pieces would work than actual writing until we decided to sign up for smallfandombang.
I'm trying to be coherent enough to write, but mostly I'm just staring at all my WIPs in despair. Being super multifannish means I end up wandering out of fandoms and then need to reabsorb all the canon to write it again. Hrmph.

Therefore, time for a meme:

1. Go to page 77 (or 7) of your current ms.
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written.

None with 77, but several with 7 pages:

( (MI:4) Ethan/Brandt fic I'm co-writing with inmyriadbits )

( (XMFC) post-movie alien invasion )

( (Inception) Arthur character study that I'm mostly writing because I love my title, not because it contributes anything interesting to his characterization )

( (Inception/H50) Your Brain Must Be A Miserable Place - also cowriting with inmyriadbits; this snippet turned out very spoilery for the story, fyi )

( (Star Trek reboot) shuttle AU - boring exposition bit )

( (XMFC) Notorious AU - one of the few bits of dialogue I stole straight from the movie )

comments
