14Valentines mix
I meant to post this for the last day of
14valentines, but I got home somewhat later than planned after dinner, and it is now just past midnight. But not for the west coast! *shifty eyes*
Anyway: there's a common misconception that women can't be funny, which is obvious nonsense. So here, have a small mix of songs sung by women which never fail to make me crack up.
1. Hound Dog - Big Mama Thornton
If you've only heard Elvis's cover, this original blues version of the song is a million times sassier and more hilarious.
2. Doris Day - Makin' Whoopee
Doris Day has reputation for being prim, but her cover of this old jazz standard has a wonderfully sly delivery that I love.
3. Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz
The giggle at the end alone is worth it, but the lyrics are comedy gold.
4. Dolly Parton - Traveling Man
Short narrative song, and goofily perfect
5. Kirsty MacColl - In These Shoes?
*dies laughing* Just listen, I swear you won't regret it.
6. Charlotte Martin - I'm Normal, Please Date Me
Sung with tongue firmly in cheek, an ode to the modern dating obsession. It's a live version, so please forgive the tag end of awkward stage chat.
7. Lex Grey - Dirty Sleazy Blues
I still think this would make a perfect Dean Winchester fanvid.
