SGA 3x15 (no spoilers)

Okay, okay, *fine*. I can see the slash. Damnit. But I still prefer gen for this fandom! There's just, like, way less of it. *slinks away to read Resonant's John/Rodney*

(Why do I have no sulky icons? Hmph. Yet another reason to sulk, which of course cannot be properly expressed without an icon. I STAND HELPLESS BEFORE THE GRAPHICS GODS.)

(Also, I need to stop watching Bollywood musicals. And this post has too many parentheticals.)

(Why yes, I should be sleeping. Shut up, Lindsey.)

OMG! You showed up on my flist! It is a miracle of LJ-land! :D

*g* Wow, so 3.15 is slashier huh? Something to look forward to? (Though I too prefer the gen... darnit).

Yeah, I've been seeing the slash more, too (even though I'm still back on 3.09). I think the character development and longer scenes has helped. I actually just had a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] maribouquet about this. Basically, what I don't like about SGA slash is that it's not what I'm looking for out of the show, so I'm not particularly interested in it in fic. See, what I enjoy most about SGA is its team-centric nature. Most shows I watch, I'm either after the partnership relationship (Due South, Bones, Alias & Dark Angel back in the day, Doctor Who, Lois & Clark, etc.) or the team/found family dynamic (Buffy, Firefly, hopefully Heroes will become this, the Stargates, Sports Night even though it has an embedded partner dynamic, etc). SGA is about the team. So, while I do enjoy the dynamic between John and Rodney and they do have elements of the yin/yang, complementary opposites thing I like in partnerships, it's just not what the show is about. McShep turns the world into The John and Rodney Show. I a) am not looking for that in SGA-verse, b) find it really out of character (John is so devoted to his people), and c) miss the secondary characters. The times it does work for me, there is either something that happens that brings John and Rodney but not the other team members closer together, it's AU that doesn't include the other characters, or there's a balance in including the other characters in the story. (See A Beautiful Lifetime Event, A Supermarket In California or The Dark Side, and freedom's just another word..., respectively). Either that, or it's really really well-written and/or hilarious. ;)

This post is entirely composed of parentheticals.

And you should be sleeping. How was dinner?

*laughs* Ain't the internet grand?

Well it's not the episode so much. It's more the way the boys seem to spend ALL THEIR SPARE TIME together (this is highlighted in the ep), and they have that whole we're-friends/partners-but-have-bickering-tension thing that, were they guy and girl, would have been escalated into on-screen flirting at this point and I would have been all about that.

I'm still OTTeam, though. There's just so much more slash available.

I'm totally loving the longer scenes. Conversations in the mess! Adorability in the puddlejumper! Sparring! Meditation! Nerdiness!

I suppose I should clarify: the show is all about team for me. I vastly prefer team/gen in fic. I used to not read slash for this fandom at all (and stopped reading het - remember our brief John/Elizabeth phase?). This post is a declaration of my intent to stop *avoiding* slash in the fandom, and to recognize the fact that John & or / Rodney get favorable treatment in show and in fandom. So basically I"m giving in to peer pressure, a very little.

On the show, there is significant potential for the partner-romance, which probably would have been developed on the show if one of them was a girl. What I don't buy are stories where they are already sleeping together, because *that* I absolutely do not see on the show.

Have you read A Farm in Iowa ()? It's possible the cutest AU ever written.

There were six whole sentences that weren't in parentheses, biotch!

There was no dinner, but there was breakfast (more like packing) and lunch. I even managed to do laundry and dishes. And now there's work, and then there will be packing and music (and possibly underwear-dancing!).

That was supposed to be A Farm in Iowa (http://sheafrotherdon.livejournal.com/105567.html).

*g* There is definitely something to that spending their time together thing... I noticed in Echoes (an ep I adore) that they just had to touch base about the whales.

OTTeam? Sounds brilliant to me. So much yummy goodness!

Sports Night has yet to reach my screen (though I've heard only good things!) But yeah, I completely agree with you on the dynamics of all the other shows and the John and Rodney show in fic annoys me also, because hey! Look at ALL the shiny people on this show?! They are all pretty and funny and write-about-able.
