2022

I feel like a cat cautiously poking its head into a new room about this year. Unlike a cat, however, the nature of time means I do have to proceed into the new year whether I like it or not, and 2022 has been a bit up and down so far.

Good things:

-finished binging 9-1-1 aka the hot firefighters show, which is 90% absurdity, competence, and found family by volume; I have not fully committed to the Buck/Eddie tinhat life, but if they don't go there they'll be missing out on an amazing character arc for them both (which they may or may not have set up accidentally, but hey, good writers know to take those, right?)
-finished a massage certification I've been idly working on for years, which is an obscure modality but I love it
-I am now eligible for health insurance through work, which halved my costs, so yay more money to play with in my budget
-this word game, which is simple and logic based and soothing and can only be played once per 24 hours, thus negating it as an addictive time suck while also being enjoyable
-my family are all still healthy and safe

Bad things:

-Omicron
-wrenched my knee last week doing the very difficult task of getting out of bed, sigh
-lost half of my porch plants because I wasn't paying attention to the weather forecast. In my defense, this is Texas and it was 70F when I got home from work so I wasn't expecting a hard freeze overnight!
-I've been struggling a bit with seasonal depression (or maybe just low grade normal depression? who can tell these days) and being even more of a hermit than what has become my pandemic-standard

So in the spirit of being less of a hermit, I decided to try the [community profile] snowflake_challenge again. We'll see how I do.

Challenge #1: update your fandom information

I tweaked a few things on various platforms bios and profiles, but mostly I ecided to do a much-needed update of my default icon (from...2011?!? goodness). I like having a consistent avatar across sites and mostly succeeded in that, but I couldn't make the damn bird fit into the circle icons on Twitter or Discord, so I picked another image which is quite pretty albeit more wintry than I prefer. My previous default was striking but not actually a sparrow which has always mildly bugged me, so I stole a new image off the internet and did my poor Photoshop best.

Challenge #2: set some goals for the coming year

I'm not going to go into detail here but broadly:

1) get physically and mentally more healthy
2) participate less passively in fandom: commenting, creating, discussing
3) deal with various things that have been piling up (physically and electronically)
